For the love of science

I do as I have always done, try to make life better and just now that is through science.

I love science, because at its core, it is about exploring ideas and concepts to determine their viability. What they don’t tell you is how darn hard it is to explore. Just as in the early days of adventurers past, the dark days are often ignored and the good days shine through. But those dark days do exist, they are bleak, miserable, utterly hopeless and really lonely. Exploration is a lonely pursuit, no one will ever really know how your adventure makes you feel but you and you have to learn to become your own best friend.

You will try to connect to others, to share your knowledge and your passion. But, you are on an island sending smoke signals. In academia you are surrounded by islands galore, some have perfected elegant signals for communication, others will simply take shots at you because they can, and the vast majority won’t even look up to see your signals. The world will look at you differently for spending your time on this island, the concept will frighten most to the point where they won’t even acknowledge your ordeal, and a few will treat you as some false hero.

It takes a persistent human to become a scientist. One that can fall and get back up again. Because you will fall, you will fail and you will want to give up. But inside each scientist there is an optimistic voice, one that strives to make things better and solve the problems of the world. Feed that voice, let its sound grow stronger and erupt into song. Let that song guide you and keep your spirits high when all feels lost.

Because you are an explorer and live for the excitement of what could be.
